We're not a faceless tour operator. We're a Vietnamese-owned company born in the mountains we drive — running private 4×4 jeep tours on the Ha Giang Loop and Cao Bang routes for travellers who want comfort without losing the soul of the journey.
Born from the mountains, built for the road
Ha Giang by Jeep started with a simple observation. As Ha Giang exploded onto every backpacker's bucket list, thousands of travellers were arriving each week — and most of them were riding two-wheel motorbikes through some of the steepest mountain passes in Southeast Asia.
For the young and adventurous, that's part of the appeal. But for families with children, photographers carrying gear, senior travellers, solo women, and anyone arriving in monsoon season, the motorbike-only model was leaving people out of one of Vietnam's most beautiful experiences.
We launched in 2022 with two restored 4×4 jeeps and a handful of local drivers who had grown up on these roads. Today we run private jeep tours on the classic Ha Giang Loop and the extended Ha Giang–Cao Bang route across two UNESCO Global Geoparks — and we're still based in the same small office in Ha Giang City where it all started.
The driver who wanted to build something better
Sean Nguyễn was born in northern Vietnam and spent his early career as an English-speaking guide and driver on the Ha Giang Loop. After years of riding pillion behind motorbikes and watching nervous travellers grip the seat through Ma Pi Leng's switchbacks, he started asking a different question: what if the jeep wasn't a backup — what if it was the main event?
In 2022, Sean founded Vietnam Trail Route Co., Ltd to bring together a small team of locally-born drivers, fluent in English and trained in mountain driving, with a fleet of well-maintained 4×4 jeeps. The brand is Ha Giang by Jeep — but the philosophy is the same one Sean grew up with: respect the mountain, take care of the guest, leave the village better than you found it.
Sean still personally drives a handful of trips each season, and reads every guest review that comes in.
